0800 Crew was a French hip-hop group from Toulouse that formed in 2003. Their track "8 ou 800" became a major hit in 2004, topping the French Singles Chart and connecting with listeners who felt marginalized. The group's music often addressed social issues like poverty and racial discrimination, delivered with a raw energy that felt immediate rather than polished.
They released albums including "La Rage du Peuple" in 2004, "Le Chant des Sirènes" in 2005, and "Prends le Pouvoir" in 2008. Other songs like "9090" and "A Horda" continued their style of direct, confrontational hip-hop. Their lyrics sometimes drew criticism from authorities for their political content, but the group maintained they were reflecting realities in their communities.
The group consisted of DJ Kool Shen on production, Joey Starr as lead rapper, Neochrome on lyrics, and Manu Key handling hype and occasional rapping. Their performances were known for being energetic and unfiltered, which built a loyal following in the French scene during the mid-2000s.
