Frank Sinatra, the voice of American song

The Chairman of the Board defined mid-century cool with a catalog of standards and swing.

Sinatra's phrasing turned songs like 'Come Fly With Me' into personal invitations. He recorded hundreds of tracks, from the holiday staple 'Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas' to the relaxed swing of 'Nice 'N' Easy'. That voice still feels like the soundtrack to a certain kind of night.

He started as a big band singer in the 1940s. Later years brought concept albums and his own Rat Pack era in Las Vegas.
